Ok, so we all know the drill. Use a rotary machine and you’ll get great consistency, light weight, and the power to pack some color fast. But the motor will burn out fast and you’ll have a slaughterhouse on your hands if you’re not careful because it has no give. The spring, that keeps the needle pulled back will wear out, and the needle will start to stick out when you step off the pedal.
Or you can use a classic coil tattoo machine. It’s great for subtle shading, it has great natural give, so it’s harder to destroy the skin with it. But it weighs a ton, so your hands will hurt, you will have to tune it up constantly and the spring will wear out or even brake and you’ll have to set the thing up all over again with a new spring. And we all know, that no two springs are the same.
So what do we take from this; we don’t want brushed motors of the rotary, because they wear out. We don’t want a machine with no give, because we are not butchers.
But we don’t want the heavy weight and and the hassle of constantly tuning up that comes with a coil tattoo machine.
And most of all we don’t want any springs. Springs wear out, springs are bad.
So what do we want? We want an ultralight machine with some give and we want it to work for a long time without any hassle.
As it happens, lightness and give are the two most prominent characteristics of two diametrically different types of machines; the rotary and the coil tattoo machine.
So can we ever have the best of both worlds? Yes, we can!
The LACEnano is a rotary tattoo machine because it has a motor, but the motor is brushless, so it doesn’t wear out. It’s also ultralight (actually the lightest ever made at 46g (1.6oz). But it also has all the best characteristic of the coil tattoo machine; it has natural give, because the drive is magnetic, just like with a coil. It also has an armature bar that resembles that of a coil tattoo machine very much.
What it doesn’t have though is the springs. Because fuck springs, the only thing they are good for is causing trouble.
So the LACEnano is actually the first tattoo machine to really walk the line bang in the middle between a rotary and a coil tattoo machine. It is best of both worlds and so much more. And you want to try one, I know you do.
